Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:06 PM: "Hello and welcome to another episode of Sutton United Talk Time on Podcast. We've finished with all the behind-the-scenes stuff. That's not true. We've got, uh, one maybe two more coming out this week, but we are doing a fans review of this season, a preview, not a review. And, um, as always, I'm your host Mike. It's in association with Lucky Star Gin. With me today on our panel we have Neil, we have Rory, Stewart, and a debut for George. Um, love hearing from everyone. Obviously, we're going to give you some introductions in a second. Um, join the conversation, share your thoughts on all our episodes, chat with other fans, let me know what you think. Um, all social medias at [Sutton Podcast] and obviously, as always, the thumbs up and the likes and all the rest of it boosts my ego a little bit because I need that, really I do. Um, let's jump in. So Neil, let's start with you. Um, apart from worrying about the pitch and every blade of grass going, how has your summer been?"
Oastler - 6:08 PM: "It's been fine, thank you, Mike. Very enjoyable. Frustrated with all the rain, because it's made the weeds grow on my allotment, but my grass is looking beautiful."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:08 PM: "One of my neighbours has got a weed underneath their trampoline, and I walked past it earlier, and it's taller than me, and it's just in a really awkward position. I'm not touching that; it's fine. Um, Rory, how's your summer been?"
Rory SP - 6:08 PM: "Yeah, it's been alright. Thanks, Mike. Yeah, it's been nice. Talking of trampolines, we've dismantled a trampoline. So that's one achievement over the summer. Yeah, exactly."
Stuart - 6:08 PM: "No, it isn't. I'm doing all right. I'm doing all right. I've invested in an amazing green screen behind me. That's how my summer's been. Yeah."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:08 PM: "Yeah, a green screen for two weeks. Um, perfect. And George, how was your summer?"
George 🕺 - 6:09 PM: "Yeah, absolutely. But we're gonna need to know a little bit more about yourself. Um, so give yourself a little intro, just tell us all about yourself. Go on."
George 🕺 - 6:09 PM: "I'm a 14-year-old boy. I just love Sutton."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:09 PM: "Excellent, lovely. Um, so there's gonna be some—this is a new feature I'm gonna do now, okay, and I realised last season that all that was happening is everyone was coming on, I was saying hello, and lovely, and all isn't it great, and no one was really kind of getting a chance to put their personalities across or tell people about yourselves. So I've done this whole new section, and it's called 'Knowing Me, Knowing You.' And obviously—"
Stuart - 6:09 PM: "Brilliant!"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:10 PM: "Yeah, do you like it? Not like it? So the question I gave you guys, and by the way, everyone went on mute as that happens, is which match are you most looking forward to this season and why? Um, George, you said 'amazing' first, so we'll start with you."
George 🕺 - 6:10 PM: "Amazing!"
Stuart - 6:10 PM: "Oh, God, don't, um... Who's in the league? Oh, Dagenham and Redbridge, I don't know. I think their fans are quite violent, you know. I sort of want that non-league sort of scrappage. That's why I fancy this season."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:10 PM: "No problem. Uh, Rory, um, you're on mute, but, um, which game are you looking forward to and why?"
Rory SP - 6:11 PM: "I'm not sure I can compete with Stuart's scrappage, to be fair, but probably Hartlepool, given I live in the north-east now. And I don't think, I was thinking about this earlier, I don't think I've ever been to see us at Hartlepool and we've lost. I remember Jamie Collins scoring a penalty in the last minute, maybe. Tommy Wright scoring in the last minute to win it. And I don't think we've ever—someone could correct me if I'm wrong—I don't think we've ever lost to Hartlepool. So yeah, I'm looking forward to Hartlepool away, 5th October."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:11 PM: "Excellent, lovely. Um, and Neil yourself? You're on mute again, but, um..."
Oastler - 6:11 PM: "Sorry about that. Yeah, okay. My match I'm most looking forward to is York City away in January, because our best friends live in York, so I'll be able to walk to the ground and have a few beers, which will..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:12 PM: "Perfect. And George, have we got you back?"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:12 PM: "I'm not sure what's happening there with George. It looks like he can hear us, but, um... Oh, hello, George. Um, we seem to have got you back now. Which match are you looking forward to and why?"
George 🕺 - 6:12 PM: "Fair enough. Well, mine is actually York at home, only because it's the second match at home and it'll feel like, yeah, yeah, we're back, we're back."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:12 PM: "Now, the first one's going to be a bit of a novelty because it's been a bit of a break, but because I haven't done any pre-seasons, um, so for me, it's going to be York, um, at home in a couple of weeks. Right, so lots of club news, there's various bits, obviously, um, it's been a long summer with lots of stuff we're going to discuss in a minute, but, um, obviously the training venue was changed. Um, I'm not sure apart from Neil how many people..."
Stuart - 6:13 PM: "Well, as long as he gets on playing good football, that's all that really matters."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:13 PM: "Yep."
Oastler - 6:13 PM: "There was a couple of things which it isn't clear is, because it's a facility that's open to the general public, have we sort of got booked private sessions for using the gym and things like that, and I presume that catering-wise the players are coming all the way—are coming back to the club."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:13 PM: "Obviously I don't know these, but these are things I'll be asking Steve on Wednesday I think it is. But yeah, to be fair, it's just a place for the train. One question I would have is, last time I was around that area, it's quite open, so you can just kind of see it, stand at the fence and look what's going on, so it's not going to be much of a secret."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:14 PM: "It's on the training ground, I would imagine, so we're going to have a look at that. Yeah, if you need step ladders or anything, but yeah, podcast-wise, we're obviously back. We're on the TalkSport fans network now, which I'm not sure if it makes a massive difference to everyone's life, but they only need me to do one mid-roll advert, which is great."
Stuart - 6:14 PM: "You'll be all positioned just standing outside."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:14 PM: "And I think it's a name that a lot of people recognise, so it kind of gives a bit of, oh, he must be good, he's on there. Little do they know. And also, there's new bits of kit. So I have things that can do this. I've got a soundboard."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:15 PM: "It's great. I'm not going to use it too much, don't worry. So, let's sort of fly through, because there's loads to go through. End of last season, I just want everyone's little thoughts on the fairly brutal release list."
Rory SP - 6:15 PM: "I'm looking forward to Hartlepool away, 5th October."
Stuart - 6:15 PM: "Well, I thought we could hang on to quite a few because don't we get the parachute payments, but when the release list came through and it was just chopping board, a lot of first-team players gone, a lot of people have been around for ages, Beautyman's gone. I mean, that's upsetting to see those players leave, but I think the way the club's moving, the rebuild, it's just..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:16 PM: "Fair enough. George, how about yourself? Were there any surprises for you, or...?"
George 🕺 - 6:16 PM: "I was surprised to see quite a few of them go, but they're all getting older and it's not really the way Steve wants to play, so I'm kind of happy with the decision."
Rory SP - 6:16 PM: "But yeah, it felt really brutal, didn't it?"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:16 PM: "Yes."
Oastler - 6:17 PM: "I wasn't surprised. I thought there were a few that he might want to hang on to, which has sort of subsequently come out in conversations that that's probably what he hoped, but I think probably, long term, it probably is the best thing."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:17 PM: "For me, it was brutal, and it was just a lot of, oh, I didn't take advantage of the relationship I got with these players enough. I was chatting to them, and I just refused to have them on and stuff like that. So I was like, oh, great. Should have made more, should have appreciated them more while I had them. But which player..."
Oastler - 6:18 PM: "Who's going to be the hardest to replace? That is difficult. I'd say there potentially there's players in up front, midfield, and in defence hard to replace, but actually I think we've got good replacements."
Oastler - 6:19 PM: "Any of the left-sided Nino, other players on that side, I think would be difficult to replace, but I think we have actually managed to cover it in a slightly different way. So those would be the three."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:19 PM: "Okay, and who do you think is going to come back and haunt us? Because there's quite a few in our division. Stuart, who do you think we're going to miss and possibly haunt us, if Neil's left any names available?"
George 🕺 - 6:19 PM: "Exercise."
Oastler - 6:19 PM: "SoCalGas."
Stuart - 6:19 PM: "Yeah, no, he's sort of nicked all of them, but I think Rob Milsom might be one that we're going to miss quite a bit. I think you could stick him on left back and he'd do a brilliant job every game. I mean, he's got on a bit in age. What's he, like 60-odd now? But someone who's going to come back and haunt us, I reckon it's... I'm going for a bit of a cup run scenario here."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:20 PM: "George, who do you think we're going to miss?"
George 🕺 - 6:20 PM: "I think our biggest loss that would be hard to replace is Charlie Lakin because he was just so good at the end of last season and also Eastie but then I think I think..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:20 PM: "As long as you're doing a score from the halfway line, we can handle that. And Rory, what about yourself?"
Rory SP - 6:20 PM: "Very similar, I'd say, yeah. Eastie, I think even actually Sam Hart, I think we might miss, because I thought he was probably the last few months of the season, I think. But then Baz looks really good left-back, so maybe we won't miss him that much. And then a similar theme, I think, in terms of who might come back to haunt us, I reckon Cup run, maybe even Duke McKenna. We played Harrogate in some kind of Cup competition, because I thought he was amazing."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:21 PM: "I think had we stayed up, we possibly could have had Leighton, but I'm surprised he stayed in League 2, to be fair. I think there's a few of the older ones we're going to miss, only just for having that whole sort of Sutton thing, the whole vibe of Sutton, Eastie is one of them definitely, but that said, he missed a lot of games for injury, it's just having him around the place. But then Roy Keane would say, what does he do?"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:22 PM: "Do card tricks or something, I don't know, and to haunt us, I'm going to go for a cup run as well, and I'm going to say Lee Angle's going to smash a hat-trick past us, because that's the kind of thing that would happen to us. I mean, at this point, obviously it's the beginning of summer, everyone's feeling a bit stressed, all we're getting is the news of players leaving, we're not getting lists of players coming back, and then we were hit with..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:22 PM: "More devastating news, which I was given a heads-up about, but the Curver has gone to away fans. I mean, what the hell is this all about? What kind of club would you become? So on that, that means I have to work out where I'm going to go, so I'm going to do a little tour of the ground. I think I'm going to ask every week, where should I go next? And I'm going to annoy different people all the time, but..."
Stuart - 6:22 PM: "Devastating."
Oastler - 6:22 PM: "Well, we could have a new game. Instead of Where's Wally, we can play Where's Mike. Or we can guess where you're going to stand. So I don't know, I was thinking exactly the same, exactly the same, until I joined you on the Curve, where I used to be on the other end."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:23 PM: "Then you saw the light. I mean, I have made a big thing of it, obviously, but I don't actually mind so much, especially if the away end, or the older away end, the new home end, gives us as much noise as we're hoping for, because if that starts a lot of noise, chants and stuff going on, it won't be good."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:23 PM: "It'll make the atmosphere so different. There's already some flags up at the back there, I saw them the other day, so I'm hoping that the young'uns, George, Scott, you can make a load of noise at that end and encourage others to do. Yeah, I don't make noise. I just stand there muttering under my breath. Huh? The drum? Right."
Stuart - 6:23 PM: "How can we get you in there with us?"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:24 PM: "I was so anti the drum, I was like, no, we don't need a drum, blah, blah, blah. But I have to say, Seb, that does the drum, actually does it really well. So it's not too much. No, I'm not going to drum. I have no rhythm at all. But the 16 signings that came in, yeah, I mean, I have kind of lost track where I am with the scouting reports."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:24 PM: "I've struggled to get someone for Hayden, because the four people I've tried have not been interested. I should have the Gillingham one in the next few days for Ashley, and I'm hoping for an MK Don's fella to come back to me to talk about Charlie. But that's definitely one of the things I regretted doing very soon, because it was like, oh yeah, I didn't really think this through, there's loads of them."
Rory SP - 6:24 PM: "Good question. I've really enjoyed your little previews, Mike. I think they've been great, like short and sharp, and yeah, really enjoyed them. I've listened to them in the car on the way to work. But yeah, I think it's been a bit of a struggle to try and keep up with the new signings. But I reckon Lewis Simper, I think, having watched the YouTube highlights of all of the friendlies, I think he looks like a quality kind of ball-playing midfielder. So I'm quite excited about him."
Rory SP - 6:25 PM: "He's the type of replacement. And then Vass at the back, left-back, looks like he's pretty quality. And then I know quite a few Middlesbrough fans living up here. Now, they say that Jeremy Sivvy didn't really have much of a chance at Harrogate, but when he's played kind of reserve football for Middlesbrough, he's looked really good. So I reckon he might be quite good. So yeah, those three for me, I think."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:25 PM: "On those short videos, the one with Tom from Harrogate ended up being the longest, but that was only because he was in a hotel in London, bored out of his brains, so I was like, yeah, I'll talk brain juice, there's no need for that. Also I was told by the Millwall guy, Craig Heskey, and he messaged me after we signed Jeremy, and said the four of Jeremy and Nana on the..."
George 🕺 - 6:26 PM: "Having watched all the friendlies I think Vass looks very exciting going forward and Sidhu can take the ball really well and I think..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:26 PM: "Excellent. So, you've watched them, I mean, the style of play that we're showing is that... Very good. Very good. Stuart, who are you most excited about and why?"
George 🕺 - 6:26 PM: "Yeah, I've been to all of them. It's like ball on the floor, very attacking going forward. It's like very different to Matt Gray."
Rory SP - 6:27 PM: "Yeah, I vote for him."
Stuart - 6:27 PM: "I've got two. One of them, for the life of me, I cannot remember the name. It came from Worthing and there was that one goal against Chelmsford where he just... Yeah. If he can recreate that on a weekly basis, honestly, get him in that starting XI. But I think the main one, Jack Sims from Braintree. I was at the match where he saved that goal from Worthing and I thought, what a cool guy."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:27 PM: "He did. Excellent. Yeah, excellent. Neil, who are you most looking forward to?"
Oastler - 6:27 PM: "Sorry, I didn't hear you, Mike, you broke up. I'm surprised you haven't—that nobody's picked the player who, on the two occasions when I've actually seen the team play, is absolutely electric, which has got to be Dylan De Silva."
Oastler - 6:28 PM: "And he showed on Saturday he can shoot as well. And he seems to play, though predominantly on the left, seems quite capable of playing on the right as well. So he's the one who most excites me."
Oastler - 6:29 PM: "He was available."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:29 PM: "I'm strangely looking forward to seeing how Josh does with the expectations on him. And, OK, you're not a young'un anymore, you're one of the leaders of the team, so I'm kind of excited to see where that goes. And I think our best signing is probably John Meaney, the coach, because I had four different people message me."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:29 PM: "Unprompted saying he is a brilliant coach, a great guy, and when you look through, he's been at clubs for a short period of time, all these people saying how great he is, I'm like, well, hang on, he seems to move around a lot, but no one's got a bad word to say against him, and he's apparently just pure, pure football. So I'm kind of really looking forward to that. From all accounts, he speaks a lot of football, he loves his football, so I probably won't be speaking to him, because I'll be just looking at him."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:30 PM: "I've got no idea what you're talking about. But, yeah, as for the new players, Natasdan, who I am so going to get his name wrong, because I used to live near Neesden, and it's all the same letters, and they're just in different orders. So, actually, I'm looking forward to it, because he seems like someone who's only interested in scoring, and we've got some players who can deliver it to him now as well."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:30 PM: "We will get someone getting those sort of 20-odd goals. But, as for the friendlies, George, I know you watch them all, but start with some of the other guys first, and see if their opinions match up. Stuart, what kind of takeaways can we take from the pre-season matches? Are they that important, or is it just fitness for you?"
Stuart - 6:30 PM: "Well, we've been on a solid run of form. I mean, we lost to Farnborough 3-1, but I think that pre-season is not too important. The results, it's rather just, you know, make sure you're getting to know your teammates, make sure you're gelling as a team before the season actually starts. I think you can't really base a season just based on pre-season."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:31 PM: "Firstly, we always lose to Farnborough, so there's definitely nothing different there. Rory, what are your thoughts? How's pre-season been, and does it mean an awful lot to you?"
Rory SP - 6:31 PM: "I don't think it does. I think it's more minutes in the legs, isn't it, which is really, really important. We've kind of got that. Seems like, well, it's a bit hard to work out what formation he's playing. Obviously, people that have been to the games might correct me, but yeah, it does seem like he's playing three at the back and kind of wing backs, it looks like, as Neil said, maybe to use the pace of De Silva on the right, particularly Baz on the left. So it looks like he's kind of been..."
George 🕺 - 6:31 PM: "I'm like, oh my god, what the fuck? Yeah, I've been to all of them. It's like very different to Matt Gray. I'm like, oh my god, what the fuck? Yeah, I've been to all of them. It's like very different to Matt Gray."
Rory SP - 6:32 PM: "Experimenting a bit, which is interesting. So I guess pre-season is quite good for that. And I suppose the fact that we've kept quite a lot of clean sheets, bodes quite well, builds up that kind of momentum, defence getting to know the new goalkeeper and vice versa. So yeah, it seems like a really positive... and you're always going to lose a couple of games if you are experimenting with formations and different players and subbing 12 people off at half-time and that kind of thing."
George 🕺 - 6:32 PM: "I'm like, oh my god, what the fuck? Yeah, I've been to all of them. It's like very different to Matt Gray."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:32 PM: "Yes, lovely. And Neil, you were shaking your head at the three at the back, but what do you think about the pre-season takeaways?"
Rory SP - 6:32 PM: "Ah, is that what he's doing? That's an interesting formation!"
Oastler - 6:32 PM: "He's going to play 4-3-3, and at times it's 1-1-8."
Oastler - 6:33 PM: "So he's, you know, he's really good. I think it's interesting, of the four goals that we conceded, three of them were conceded when Vaz wasn't playing or wasn't on the pitch, and we had largely the Fulham game, we had, when they scored two of their goals, we'd got most of the academy on the field."
Oastler - 6:33 PM: "I know where a pass is, and it's, they're always looking for a forward pass, so I know it's very tempered by the quality of the opposition and have they made us look good, but I would say there are an awful lot more positives than negatives to take out of the pre-season."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:34 PM: "Fair enough. Stuart, I think we played like that against you lot in the fans match, 1-1-8 at some point. Yeah, but George, you were at all of the games, so what do you feel like is the key takeaways from pre-season and how important is it?"
Stuart - 6:34 PM: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, and it really paid off, didn't it?"
George 🕺 - 6:34 PM: "I think it looks very positive. The football we're playing is a lot better, a lot better. Defensively we look solid, apart from Farnborough, where we couldn't put the ball in the back of their net."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:34 PM: "Excellent. And so, with the playing style, I know a couple of people have already said different things. Is it you feel we're more flexible? Can we change it up a little bit more and maybe go back three at the back or five at the back? Yeah?"
George 🕺 - 6:35 PM: "Yeah. Yeah. A lot of the time we're playing two at the back because Vaz and Dzeko just go so high up."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:35 PM: "Right. Almost glad I'm not on the curve this year, people screaming at that. So, do we feel, at this stage, that there are any concerns with this side? Scott, Stuart, sorry. We were back at school there for a second. Stuart, do you have any kind of concerns?"
Stuart - 6:35 PM: "Um, not really, to be honest. I mean, this is just, like, give Steve a full shot at a season. Hopefully the squad works his way. It's the players that he wants. So, as long as he's, you know, got them playing the football that he likes. Am I there?"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:35 PM: "You're kind of breaking up a little bit. Sorry. Sorry. We'll go to Rory for a sec. He's showing that your bandwidth has dropped out. Rory, do you have any kind of concerns at the moment?"
Rory SP - 6:36 PM: "I defer to George and Neil. I haven't watched the majority of the games, but from watching the highlights, I don't think I do really. I've never been a huge fan of Jaco, but I guess if he's playing in more of a system that suits him, that enables him to get higher up the pitch, then maybe that's a positive."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:36 PM: "Well, hopefully we won't be doing that much defending, so it won't matter. Neil, do you have any concerns on the scene at this stage?"
George 🕺 - 6:36 PM: "It's a lot of the time we're playing two at the back because Vaz and Dzeko just go so high up."
Oastler - 6:37 PM: "Concerns are that we're not so good at the back when Jackson or Vaz aren't playing, so I think we actually need a right-back cover and we need a left-back cover, so those are my concerns. I think everywhere else the..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:37 PM: "Perfect. I think someone was telling me Charlie Waller can play left-back as well, and that's the player I think, I don't have names, but I think we're looking for someone who can potentially cover, well, young Rob Nilsson basically, cover midfield and left-back, and right-back even, sorry. I may have got that horribly wrong one way or the other, but I think one of the full-back positions."
George 🕺 - 6:38 PM: "My one concern was that we didn't have a goal scorer and attacker, but then we put in Adesanya, so I think... No, not really."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:38 PM: "No, perfect. Stuart, do you want another go? Because you were shown as low-bandwidth."
Stuart - 6:38 PM: "Am I back? Am I? No, I don't think I've got any concerns. I think Steve's got his team, he's got the players he wants. We're going to win the league."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:38 PM: "Well, funnily enough, I'm going to skip you for the next question then, because it was what do you think we're going to realistically do in this season? So, you know, that's fine, no, no. Neil, what are your expectations and what do you think we can achieve?"
Oastler - 6:38 PM: "As I am the world's worst optimist, or the world's biggest pessimist, I would, I would have generally said I thought we were probably mid-table mediocrity, but in fact, in Steve we..."
Oastler - 6:39 PM: "In line for the Millwall job, and I'd hate to lose him after we've, you know, come this far with him, so that's one of my other concerns for the season, and my undue pessimism showing forward."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:39 PM: "Fair enough. George, what do you think? What are your expectations?"
George 🕺 - 6:39 PM: "This is hard. I think we could be literally anywhere, but I'd like to say between... I'd like to say in the playoffs. Hopefully, yeah."
Rory SP - 6:39 PM: "I agree with George and Neil, yeah, I reckon playoffs. I think, yeah, young, exciting side, I think we should be aiming for playoffs. But then I should caveat that with, I think both you and I, Mike, did we get, I think we got a single score right in the predictions? Certainly I didn't. So you probably should take what I say with a big pinch of salt. I'm hoping to do better this year. But yeah, I reckon playoffs."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:40 PM: "Yeah, I'm hoping we have a tilt towards playoffs. I mean, genuinely, what I'm hoping for is for us to go to football with a hope that we're going to win games rather than, oh, I wonder whether we're going to concede the first goal here. So a bit more of the fun and unknown of what's going to happen rather than just we expect to lose."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:40 PM: "So the next bit I'm going to do is the free question, the free Q preview. You are a bit of guinea pigs on this, so I'm slotting the interview in, so there is going to be a few minutes of us just listening. So hopefully this works out. I may have to work out another way of doing it, so I think it's seven minutes or so. So have a listen, and he will..."
George 🕺 - 6:40 PM: "Yeah. Yeah. Yeah."
Stuart - 6:41 PM: "Brilliant."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:50 PM: "Okay, I think I did another video that had taken out a lot of those delays, but obviously I've uploaded the wrong one, so that's brilliant. Was there any surprises there? Is anyone shocked about what he said, or is it kind of as you expected? Stuart, we'll start with you."
Stuart - 6:50 PM: "Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, Mike, I didn't realise it, because it mutes you every time. I could barely hear what he said, so I had to stick my ear right up against my iPad. So I heard 80% of what he said."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:50 PM: "Okay."
Oastler - 6:51 PM: "Surprised he said that they're going to play out from the back, because I overheard Steve saying when we were at Oxford that essentially it's going to be a bit different when we play Tamworth, because essentially they are hoofball, long-ball team. And, uh, so, uh, but that doesn't seem to be..."
Stuart - 6:51 PM: "Squatty Otis influence."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:51 PM: "No, I mean, tippy-tappy everywhere. I mean, you mentioned the strength was the defence. You guys kind of inferred that our attack is going to be quite strong this year. I know Dylan is a fan of spectacular goals and early doors, but George, how do you sort of see the match playing out?"
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:52 PM: "Fair enough, fair enough. Stuart, what did you think of what you had to say?"
Stuart - 6:52 PM: "Well, he said we'd only win 2-1. I think that's quite generous of them. I think we'll quite comfortably beat them 5-1."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:52 PM: "Okay. Rory, what about yourself? What did you think of what he said, what you could hear, and what do you think is going to happen in the match?"
Rory SP - 6:52 PM: "Yeah, I thought it was interesting he said they don't have a lot of National League experience. So I think that might go for us. Using the pressure on them, first game of the season, not used to that. So yeah, I think that might go for us. And as everyone said, the kind of defensive nature of Tamworth, I reckon, yeah, I reckon we'll beat them. I think we'll be well up for it. New players, points to prove, etc. I think we might beat them."
George 🕺 - 6:53 PM: "Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:53 PM: "Okay, fair enough. Neil, I didn't ask you your prediction, what was your prediction for the match? We can change it, don't worry."
Oastler - 6:53 PM: "Well, um, I don't know, being a pessimist, I was thinking possibly it might just even be just a one-all draw. I think we might be, uh, I think we might be frustrated. It's going to be hot and, uh, I wouldn't necessarily..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:54 PM: "We'll have to work out when his birthday is so we can see if he's getting his yellow cards in time for his birthday as well. The code is on the screen, the Prediction League is back. So the code takes you to the sign-up page and asks you all your details, and as long as you enter before kick-off, your most recent entry will be the one that counts. So if you enter three or four times, it's only going to be the last one that counts."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:54 PM: "But yeah, do join in, and Rory and I will see if we can get any right this year at all. It would be nice. I'm going to go for two runs only because that's the most popular score in football and I'm bound to get one of them right at some stage. But today, making a long-awaited return is..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:55 PM: "I found the video and I got it to work. I'm so happy. Oh, you missed it as it didn't play? I can do it again. Oh, I thought you meant you hadn't heard it this time. Because that's also one of my sound bites on here. I got it on the little machine as well. And so I did kind of forget to ask Mark his recommendation."
Rory SP - 6:55 PM: "I missed that one, mate. Yeah, I missed that. No, no, I missed it on the podcast."
George 🕺 - 6:55 PM: "It didn't play."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:55 PM: "And I hastily messaged him just before we came on, but then I did the tiniest, tiniest bit of research ever and I found out that the Tamworth Tap, which I'm told is 29 Market Street, has been the pub of the year for the last two years in a row, which has only ever happened once before. So I thought, oh, I'm guessing it's going to be that one. And then Mark did come back and said, yes, it's got its own brewery. It's got views of the castle from the courtyard. He's not actually been there, but he's very..."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:55 PM: "Much looking forward to making it his acquaintance. So if anyone's going and they're fancying somewhere, it's a really nice looking little place. And they haven't given me any money, but it's like a proper old-fashioned pub and it's won pub of the year two years in a row. So it must have something going for it. We're going to wrap up the episode. We've covered a week before. Everyone can kill me because I can see Neil desperately wants to talk about the jingles. So we're wrapping up this episode."
Mike Sutton Podcast - 6:56 PM: "As always, we appreciate your attention. I need to get a jingle for that. That's what I need a jingle for. And your feedback. We are back this week on Wednesday with Steve Morrison. There's another one potentially this week as well, but I haven't got finalisation of that yet. And as always..."
