Speaker 6: Hello and welcome to another episode of Sutton United Talk Time on podcast is Sutton podcast and it's an association with the Larkin Star Association even I will try that again. I'm your host Mike and with me on our panel today we have got Chris and Neil. We are covering the very dull boring 2-0 win. These are getting I mean it's got another goal but come on no conceding goals. What we've got to moan about. And the winner gets filed. And we're gonna look forward to EBS fleet in the trophy. Although I haven't got an EBS fleet

01:29 - 01:53

Speaker 6: plan on because we're not doing a pro or big program for that 1. So I didn't arrange it. And engagement, love hearing from everyone. Love those thumbs up. Always giving out a little hit of dopamine. So thank you very much to everyone doing that, and the shares and likes and all the comments, I really do love it. Anyone who hasn't got involved yet, add us on podcast on any of the socials, and you make an old man very happy and We're gonna dive right in Neil. How have you been?

01:53 - 02:00

Speaker 7: I've been fine. Thank you, Mike. I've This afternoon I have been burning an old shed

02:01 - 02:02

Speaker 6: Nice not on your lovely lawn.

02:02 - 02:08

Speaker 7: No, no, no on on the allotment or the the allotments are joining mine. So

02:09 - 02:11

Speaker 6: There's the owner of that 1. No

02:15 - 02:21

Speaker 7: and it's got a rat's nest under it so it was basically it was it was environmental and necessary

02:22 - 02:28

Speaker 6: I just want you to burn your shed on someone's vegetable patch Chris

02:29 - 02:30

Speaker 2: hello the jinx

02:30 - 02:32

Speaker 6: yes yes it's been broken

02:32 - 02:39

Speaker 2: oh yes I have finally seen us win this season it's a strange feeling

02:39 - 02:45

Speaker 6: yeah, I mean it's not like last season where it didn't happen very often we are winning games you just haven't seen that

02:45 - 03:18

Speaker 2: yeah, I mean I saw us win the first match of last season. Yeah. So, yeah, yeah, it's just, I just, I have often seen us put in a shabby performance and get no reward for it, or get a point. But yeah, yeah, so it was just, it was just a relief because I was all starting to think, do I just cut back on my stewarding? Because like work has already been forcing me to not do as much. And also I was thinking, if we get to the playoffs, do I just not go to Wembley? Well,

03:19 - 03:28

Speaker 6: in fairness, you can't be blamed for Wembley. No, no, no. You've never won at Wembley. No, I don't. And if we blame anyone, we won't know who we're gonna blame. Don't we, Jenny Corkett?

03:45 - 03:46

Speaker 2: City game but yeah

03:47 - 03:48

Speaker 6: yeah it's been a good November

03:49 - 03:58

Speaker 2: yeah yeah it's been a relatively good November yeah 9 9 points excellent which is good playoff spot absolutely yeah

03:58 - 04:11

Speaker 6: and right we'll stick with you for the knowing me knowing

04:11 - 04:11

Speaker 1: you segment.

04:11 - 04:19

Speaker 6: The question I asked is what is your favourite Sun United kit from any season and why okay why

04:19 - 05:00

Speaker 2: so without any shadow of a doubt it is the the black kit that was our third kit and I think because well a selfishly it's got my name on the back of it in small print. But also as well, it's got the names of all of the fans that were making financial contributions to keep the club going during COVID. And I just thought that was such a lovely touch. And I know that the club does sometimes get criticism, sometimes quite rightly, about certain things that it does about consultation, et cetera. But I thought that that was

05:00 - 05:20

Speaker 2: really nice. So, and also as well, I think it's a really fine looking shirt as well. It just, it does look kind of terrific and so I'm I'm yeah I do often kind of like wear that around. It's also the only football shirt my mum has ever owned

05:22 - 05:25

Speaker 6: So Jackson sims shirt anyway

05:25 - 05:57

Speaker 2: No, it was a jackson shirt. No, no, I haven't seen it Yeah My my my mum my mum provided feedback to me about what she thought of a Jack Sims performance in Bournemouth City game. She was not kind, but also I think she was somewhat misguided and I have yet to get to the bottom, but also my mum doesn't have a renowned football coach career or anything so I think it was I don't know whether somebody said something on ITV but anyway that's enough about me.

05:58 - 06:12

Speaker 6: Well a couple things on the black kid and 1 I'm gonna say because I think she might be vinegar shot my oldest ruined it for me because I sort of got got it in the post settled down to sit and find my name on the back of it I was like here we go and she went he's right there

06:12 - 06:13

Speaker 2: oh come on

06:13 - 06:24

Speaker 6: man I was gonna look for that but I think some people on there are more than once because yes season ticket and the people have pledged as well So I think it's your there's chance to see your name more than once.

06:24 - 06:28

Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm on there twice and also my wife's firm is

06:28 - 06:54

Speaker 6: Excellent. I think the yellow could have been a bit more amber-y but and the black could have been chocolate but yeah and I also think it's I believe this might be horribly wrong I believe that's Gareth Miller came up with the idea for that yeah and everyone kind of went yes that's a really good idea so yeah I'm with you I like that kit as well yeah Neil what's your favourite kit from any season and why?

06:54 - 07:29

Speaker 7: Well, I sort of have 3, but because I'm so old and you know how memory plays a funny thing. I was convinced that when I first started watching Sutton, they played in the old Amber and Chocolate Quarters. But I looked back and found that it wasn't. In fact, the amber and chocolate quarters was a lot more recent than I thought it was. It was like sort of the late 1990s into 2008. And I was convinced in my mind that's what was worn back in the 60s, and it wasn't.

07:29 - 07:35

Speaker 6: No, It did go back further than the 60s. I don't think you go back that far.

07:35 - 08:13

Speaker 7: No, no, no. So that's that. So I liked the chocolate and amber quarters, because I just thought it was nice to set it. Plus, there was a chocolate short. I don't think there's enough chocolate these days that that's that but the other ones I've liked I I did like the the Italia Cup when we played in the Italian Cup the Anglo Italian Cup final because we played in the England kit. But that was a unique one-off as we were representing England. And of the current ones, I actually like our second strip. I like that white with

08:13 - 08:24

Speaker 7: the vertical strips. As an aesthetic I think that looks really nice so apologies for having 3 but I couldn't decide between them.

08:26 - 09:01

Speaker 6: I was sitting there going oh it's great I'm asking this question because I'm not answering it. Let me know your answer guys and share your thoughts and which is your favorite kit and why and we we know from last week what Claire's answer will be because she designed 1 of news what do you think of the Matt Rush going out on loan? Neil start with you, some comments have been oh it's not very fair he wasn't given a chance but then the flip side is let's look at Jack who went out on loan and has come

09:01 - 09:05

Speaker 6: back firing on all cylinders. So Neil, what do you think on that situation?

09:06 - 09:41

Speaker 7: I was surprised because I thought he would be a certain starter for all of the National League Cup or National League Trophy or whatever that tournament's called because I think you know I think we need to give Will and Ashley a bit of a rest. So I thought he would be certain he would play in all of those. So shows you what I know. And I think he's a different, you know, he's a bit like, you know, he's tiny, he's fast, he's a bit irritating. And again, old school, I like the large center forward with the

09:41 - 09:48

Speaker 7: short forward playing alongside them. Because I think it causes a different set of problems for defenses.

09:49 - 09:51

Speaker 2: A kind of a Kevin Phillips approach. Yeah.

09:52 - 09:56

Speaker 6: That's very good. Nice to meet you, Nick. Chris, what do you think?

09:58 - 10:32

Speaker 2: Yeah, it always feels like a bit of a humiliation, someone being lent back to a club that they've previously played for. Yeah, it feels to me a bit like it's a precursor to letting him go. But yeah, I don't, I mean, because I haven't seen us win until today. I have not really thought an enormous amount about our strikers. Has been from Josh. Yeah, I

10:34 - 11:05

Speaker 6: mean, I'm a bit surprised as well because I don't think we've got a huge amount of cover. Obviously, I'm not going to pretend to double-guess the management team. But for the National League Trophy Games, or whatever it's called, I'm wondering will we get Vinnie Registered for those and playing because I know he's out on loan, but he may well be able to be playing in those I don't know certain But other people are saying there must be someone coming in Matt did offer us a different thing and I like that where defences have to deal with

11:05 - 11:27

Speaker 6: something different with sort of 15-20 minutes to go. But like I say with Jack, he went off in his month, came back full of confidence and that was the club that he was at last year so it might be that familiar surroundings might benefit him. But we'll see. Right, the next bit of big news. On Thursday the club announced we're going cashless

11:30 - 11:40

Speaker 2: So I am in favor of being cashless. I can see how it probably should have given more notice.

11:41 - 11:42

Speaker 6: I mean,

11:44 - 12:21

Speaker 2: I struggle to remember the last time I paid for something in cash, apart from renting a trolley from a supermarket and even then I get my money back. But yeah, I also appreciate that there are still people who kind of like, you know, who use cash and there's the argument about kids, like If the kids don't have a bank card, at least you can give them a fiver or something. Or you can send a 12 year old off to kind of like go and get chips for you know however much it is and they haven't wandered

12:21 - 12:23

Speaker 2: off of your bank card.

12:24 - 12:58

Speaker 6: The food outlets were taking money. That's probably a good idea. Yes yes yeah yeah but yeah I mean I'm with you I haven't used cash for ages I've got a £20 note in the back of my phone that has been there for about 4 years because I went somewhere ages ago and they didn't accept the card and it just threw me. So I'll just get that in there. But it's gathering dust, it might have disintegrated, I don't know. But it was the speed for me, it was what I think personally, sorry Neil, I know you're going

12:58 - 13:04

Speaker 6: to say this actually, you go first before I take what you're probably going to say. Neil, what did you think about the cash list and the announcement?

13:06 - 13:38

Speaker 7: I can see why they're doing it from ease of the problems and handling cash and paying cash into the bank is a real, it's virtually impossible to do these days. But like a lot of things the club has done, they've seemed to have done it on a Tuesday, decided on a Tuesday, told people on a Friday and then people have just got to live with it. So I don't think they win any friends and favors by doing it. You need a bit of a lead-in time with a little bit of an explanation why?

13:39 - 13:40

Speaker 6: Yeah, and

13:40 - 13:41

Speaker 7: then I think it would be accepted.

13:42 - 14:11

Speaker 6: Yeah, I think if they've gone in and said 1st of January We're doing this and then anyone who pays in cash over the next month You can say right you do know that we're not gonna do this Because 1 of the things that people have said is some people like cash because they can take out their 20 quid and as JR said, the reason I prefer cash is if I start tapping tapping on my card and I've run a few drinks, I'm starting to buy drinks for everyone and you suddenly don't realise how much you're spending.

14:12 - 14:40

Speaker 6: So yeah, there is that, but you can also get accounts, and I've got like 3 or 4 different bank accounts and I use 1 where I put money across as my spend money and I can just keep tapping away until that's gone and I move a bit more across. But not everyone will have that. There are preloaded credit cards. I may look into designing some of them and start selling a preloaded card with a little face on it going don't spend your money we'll see how that goes it's unlikely let's be honest yeah for me I

14:40 - 15:09

Speaker 6: didn't do the podcast calendar this year because I was I've had it in my diary from mid october and I just kept carrying it forward and I've got ages yet, ages yet, ages yet and suddenly this morning I was like oh yeah I haven't finished that at all so I'm not bothering this year so the club's done 1 which is good. Okay the match let's talk about that because I've wasted everyone's time for a little bit. Neil, what was your thoughts and expectations ahead of time?

15:10 - 15:28

Speaker 7: I was confident but I thought it might turn out to be a banana skin because we've got carried away before and let's face it this is Sutton so we all we you know

15:28 - 15:29

Speaker 2: yeah

15:29 - 15:31

Speaker 7: we bucked the trend so I

15:31 - 15:44

Speaker 6: fully agree someone did say these guys are way down the league, why is everyone worried? Because we've been here before. Yes. It's why. Yes. What were your expectations and hopes?

15:46 - 16:23

Speaker 2: My expectations and my hopes were different things. I think my expectation was that I would see yet another draw or a defeat. My hope would be that we would be able to beat a team that were in the relegation spots. However, I remember thinking that when I went to the Boston game. And yeah. So I also, as well, in the last time we played filed in the FA Cup, I'd befriended 1 of their backroom staff, who had been at part run that morning and I'm such And that's a lovely chat with them and I was looking

16:23 - 16:53

Speaker 2: forward to seeing them Again, and I saw this face walking or something and I was just looking at them and the guy gave me a bit of a nod and Okay, but he didn't say oh higher and then what? There's somebody looks at me and when you know, that's Kevin Phillips. Oh so I am glad I didn't have a conversation with Kevin Phillips asking him whether he did part run that morning. Yeah, he could have

16:53 - 16:54

Speaker 6: been an opener I suppose. Yeah, he

16:54 - 16:56

Speaker 2: could have been.

16:56 - 16:58

Speaker 6: He could have been a bit of an opener. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

16:59 - 17:00

Speaker 2: But yeah. Well, I

17:00 - 17:30

Speaker 6: was distracted the first half because I had a visitor with me who had been moaning to come to football for ages and ages and ages Of course.

17:32 - 18:07

Speaker 2: Well, we just seemed to be unable to keep possession. But also, as well, NIDA teams seemed to be really at the races. There were a few attempts. I mean, Jack had to make a couple of really good saves. But yeah, it just felt like it was going to be 1 of those games. And yeah, we just could not keep holding the ball. I mean, to an extent that, I mean, it's fantastic we won, but I'm still a little bit nervous because I think we ought to have been a bit more dominant in a game against a

18:07 - 18:08

Speaker 2: team that's so low down.

18:10 - 18:37

Speaker 6: Neil, what was your thoughts on the first half? Steve said himself that he didn't like it and he could go into the players saying, what do you want from us? Do you need more information? Do you want more instructions? What do you want? And actually someone had spoken to 1 of the players I can't remember if they told me afterwards or at half time and they had said that I don't know what's wrong with us. Oh, it might be enough to warm up actually don't know what's wrong with us Everyone just seems really flat so and

18:38 - 18:40

Speaker 6: No, but Neil what would it would you think of the first half?

18:42 - 19:16

Speaker 7: Agree with what Chris sort of felt that it wasn't a very good game in football but I've watched the whole thing back again and in fact the first half was a lot better than I remember it being. There was you know there were some good chances both the keepers both the keepers kept them in it there was the Connor and paddy on the commentary were convinced that it should have been a penalty, which they spent the entire match saying we've got away with that. Those guys really are trying to

19:16 - 19:17

Speaker 6: be so, so neutral.

19:17 - 19:36

Speaker 7: They're absolute past masters at it. They're almost they're almost coming across as being sort of going again So So that's worth the discussion that supposed penalty because the referee I think got it wrong in 2 respects but not the way that Paddy and Connor reckoned.

19:38 - 19:40

Speaker 6: You're making it, we're on bring it up. Well,

19:41 - 19:56

Speaker 7: so the ball goes over the top and Tyler faffs around with it, passes the ball back to Jack and the other guy and then pulls the other guy back who goes down like a sack of potatoes.

19:56 - 19:57

Speaker 6: Yeah.

19:57 - 20:19

Speaker 7: And they said it should have been a pen. But the point was the ball had got that the forward had no chance of getting the ball because it had gone back to Jack who caught it it was in fact a pass back to the goalkeeper so it should have been a booking yes which was correct but it should have been an indirect free kick just inside the box

20:19 - 20:24

Speaker 6: did he pass it or was it a challenge he passed it back okay he passed

20:24 - 20:25

Speaker 2: it back and the challenge

20:30 - 20:43

Speaker 7: to the ball, Jack caught it. So in fact, an indirect free kick in the box is not quite as dangerous from there as the direct free kick where he gave it, which was because Jack produced a very good save.

20:43 - 20:44

Speaker 2: Excellent. I was 1

20:44 - 20:47

Speaker 6: of the fans videoed that. That's on my Twitter thing.

20:47 - 20:55

Speaker 2: Yeah. My understanding is that the ref chose not to give a red card because Jack caught it.

20:57 - 20:58

Speaker 6: Right.

21:01 - 21:10

Speaker 2: He would have given a yellow, which he did. But it was only a yellow and no more because Jack got the ball.

21:11 - 21:15

Speaker 7: I.e. He's agreeing that the forward really didn't have a chance of getting to the

21:15 - 21:16

Speaker 6: ball but

21:16 - 21:21

Speaker 7: it should have been an indirect free kick, it's because it was a pass back.

21:21 - 21:23

Speaker 6: Yeah. Well we got away with it.

21:23 - 21:42

Speaker 2: Yeah, we got away with it. Quite a few cards that the ref dished out in that first half. I mean he didn't lose his cards in second half, they also made an appearance. But yeah. You could tell Christmas was coming up.

21:42 - 21:45

Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah. You get a card, you get a card, you get a card.

21:45 - 21:46

Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.

21:46 - 21:49

Speaker 6: Someone was saying we get fined if it's over 5 cards and I think we've got 6 in the end.

21:49 - 22:41

Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd heard that. But I mean I'd heard that from people who had heard that rather than I had heard it from anybody kind of say that they're from the FA or whatnot, but never like, oh, the referee's coach. So, OK, OK. Right. Are you his mental coach or are you what assistance do you provide the referee?

22:42 - 22:57

Speaker 7: So the referee and the linesman on the TARDIS side, apparently are both EFLs so these 2 as a pair vacillate between the 2 leagues. So as far as I'm concerned you can go back to the EFL.

22:57 - 23:00

Speaker 2: Yeah well he'd also apparently

23:00 - 23:03

Speaker 6: he didn't give them the indirect free kicks I quite like him.

23:04 - 23:09

Speaker 2: The last time that he'd ref'd here had been when we had a plastic pitch, in his words.

23:10 - 23:17

Speaker 6: So yeah. He also in the second half did some pretty good playing advantage as well.

23:17 - 23:25

Speaker 2: He did, he did, to be fair to him. He did, he did. But I mean, I was just convinced that someone was going to get sent off for something silly. Absolutely.

23:45 - 24:32

Speaker 6: That was and he sort of came over and he's like right I better go in now get told off but I'll be back out in a minute it was told off. Right I'm gonna take some responsibility for that first half because I did say on Tuesday Wednesday whenever I spoke that we haven't scored in the new home end since Italy most probably happened yeah but the second half was very very different I mean lots happened but we'll go with the goal for the Fernandez I've seen it back and I'm a bit gutted first of all of

24:32 - 25:16

Speaker 6: the camera angle because it shows the empty curver and you can just imagine everyone going oh there's no fans there yeah but his eyes just lit up as that ball sat up and I was like, if the keeper gets to it, he keeps going into that goal as well.

25:19 - 25:21

Speaker 7: That's what he should have done with the Birmingham shot.

25:22 - 25:54

Speaker 6: Don't talk to him about that. In a second I said I suppose enough to be nice to you this week after I gave a bit of grief about that 91st minute cross and he was like yes I heard about that but yeah absolutely the ball kind of went out and I think it was Jack that won it in midfield with a lovely header forward and it just sat up beautifully. It's 1 of those things that doesn't always happen for us sometimes when that ball bounces it spins the wrong way or it just holds up so it

25:54 - 26:21

Speaker 6: doesn't always happen for us so when it is glorious to see it. There was speculation it was less beautiful strike and it shinned it but that came from Hayden Muller so I'm not sure how true that is but yeah it's beautiful goal to make swan hill up and then as Steve mentioned oh Chris I didn't ask you about your goal. What was your view of the goal?

26:21 - 26:40

Speaker 2: My view of the goal was kind of uninterrupted. I was able to actually see it. I was kind of like just delighted that we'd finally broken the deadlock. It had felt like it was coming. Yeah, yeah, I was getting with excitement and I was then trying to remember the last time I'd seen a score a call

26:42 - 26:47

Speaker 6: and you mentioned to me that the other tunnel staff had a conversation with you. Yes yes

26:47 - 27:21

Speaker 2: Yes, they did, because they knew that I was a bit of a curse and sometimes We have found that we can sometimes get Goals a bit more easily if 1 of us had gone away to like the loo or something I was then sent down to the end of the tunnel So I couldn't see the game and so therefore the game would know but the curse was no longer watching And lo and behold the game delivered a second goal. So I Spore the celebration of it, but I mean, I only watched it about kind of like

27:21 - 27:23

Speaker 2: half an hour or so ago.

27:23 - 27:25

Speaker 6: Fair enough. Well, it was another great goal.

27:25 - 27:32

Speaker 2: It was it was it was I particularly enjoy how Will crashes into the net and gets himself stuck in it. But it

27:32 - 27:55

Speaker 6: was in the bar afterwards Nicky Joyce was in attendance, Ricky Kidd was there as well and they were asked quite loudly would you have ever crossed that? And they went no! That was a chance! Neil, what was your view of that goal? I've got some opinions on it, but what was your view on the glorious cross from

27:56 - 28:24

Speaker 7: Ashley? I think it was very unselfish, it was the right thing to do. It's what we haven't... It was 1 of those crosses that actually went across and actually went where it was meant to go it didn't hit a defender or it was well placed and it was you know again that in in other respects that was just as glorious as the first goal because it just is what we haven't done we'd finished them off with 2 quick thrusts.

28:24 - 28:59

Speaker 6: Yeah, 2 quick calls I mean I have to say Will was getting a few grumbles for not being in the right place a couple times not running forward they were often then sort of shut up with guys knackered he played 90 minutes of every match and toes all the time and I'm wondering did Ashley hear some of those grumbles and just think right here you go mate but yeah very unselfish cross and yeah lovely 2-0

29:01 - 29:03

Speaker 2: and Will nearly got a third didn't he

29:03 - 29:03

Speaker 6: I

29:03 - 29:12

Speaker 2: think but though he possibly could have been a a bit less selfish on that and if he'd kind of like

30:45 - 30:55

Speaker 6: really well. Jack Sims again, keeps us on our toes Neil, but what do you think of his performance overall?

30:59 - 31:34

Speaker 7: His distribution and he gives confidence, he gives confidence in the back, you don't think he's going to do anything stupid and He's a shorter goalkeeper, but his position is good. That was a that was you know, too well too good saves from free kicks from Alton and then he's got his eyes behind the ball you know you don't feel he's going to to spill anything so I'm confident so the 3 clean sheets are as much down to him as the the defense in front of them and they're a good they're a good they're a good unit

31:34 - 31:36

Speaker 7: there seems to be an understanding there now

31:36 - 31:39

Speaker 2: yes yeah which they haven't been earlier on yeah

31:45 - 31:58

Speaker 6: used to take in Chris I don't know how you feel about Jack and but Neil mentioned his distribution there was 1 moment there when he launched the ball out like I thought you're not a goals mate this isn't 5 aside for you can't just roll it out or bowl it out

31:58 - 32:00

Speaker 2: yeah that was

32:00 - 32:04

Speaker 6: but what do what do you think of his performance and as you said over the last couple games?

32:04 - 32:46

Speaker 2: Yeah Yeah, I Think he's been growing in confidence And yeah, I I kind of think that it's now Yeah, That that shirt is now his until yeah unless he gets injured or something so it's good to have a keeper of steve's caliber on the bench, to be there as a backup but yeah I I think I think it's going to be Jack from here on in. I just, yeah, I mean, there were a couple of occasions where he was going a little bit further up the field than I would like, but I mean, he wasn't being

32:46 - 33:12

Speaker 2: kind of like the midfielder that bizarreness would sometimes be. So yeah, yeah, it was fine. I mean, it would be, I didn't see any of the Solihull game by all accounts. He was up against better opposition than yesterday. So yeah, be interested to see how he copes with the spurs children but yeah

33:13 - 33:14

Speaker 7: I don't think you'll play

33:14 - 33:15

Speaker 2: no no

33:15 - 33:18

Speaker 7: steve arnold will play I'll virtually guarantee that

33:18 - 33:43

Speaker 6: Yeah, I think we'll probably put Stephen. Yeah. Yeah, there was 1 other thing to kind of finish this off really and We are Harry Ransom's block Being Jack had gone have gone it made it safe the ball would come back out and it was going in. Did you guys have a good view of that? No? Neil?

33:44 - 33:50

Speaker 7: Yeah I wasn't aware of it in the game, but I saw it on the Yeah on the highlights back.

33:50 - 34:12

Speaker 6: Yes, definitely for himself and was just like that's not getting past that's it In past us today and that again is Not we weren't missing it deliberately, but it's that little kind of extra bite, that little extra, no, nothing is getting past us is what was missing a couple of weeks ago. But we are

34:12 - 34:31

Speaker 2: up to seventh. It is interesting that I think that the optic and form has coincided with Steve Saville or Steve whatever is coming back so he's the team psychologist. I find that really quite interesting.

34:32 - 35:09

Speaker 6: I don't think he likes being called that. He's a football coach but he does a lot with the learning and the mind place. The same page he's yeah 1 of his things is a little example where he's got the whole room of people he puts up this phrase and says he just wants you to count the F's instructions as it comes along 1 says in the green in the green blue text 1 says count the F's how many F's are below and so everyone's counting F's and some people have kind of looked at him and went

35:09 - 35:40

Speaker 6: well hang on is the color right? Is you miss out the ofs and you miss other things so different people are standing up and his point is there's 40-50 people in this room and you've all got split opinions this is why everyone's got to get aligned onto the same page doing the same thing because you all see it slightly different to how we see it and some of it's just so common sense you see yeah surely everyone knows this but then you're like actually no I didn't think of that it's all myself so yeah but he's

35:40 - 35:41

Speaker 6: really good if you get a chance to

36:00 - 36:08

Speaker 2: and save. The rest of them are kind of, well, I think most of them are younger than this century.

36:09 - 36:15

Speaker 6: So yeah, I think it's a few sort of 25, 26 year olds. Oh, is it? Okay.

36:15 - 36:16

Speaker 2: All right.

36:16 - 36:20

Speaker 6: But still. A few, 3 and a half or something

36:20 - 37:13

Speaker 2: like that. Yeah, it is definitely, it is a young side. And so I think it is useful to have somebody who is this team beat our team that got to Wembley 3 years ago? I don't think it would yet. No. It made it, but it may do maybe.

37:13 - 37:27

Speaker 6: Yeah. That team possibly would have bullied this team. But if it went into extra time yeah yeah then you'd wonder whether this team would then be able to outrun them

37:27 - 37:34

Speaker 2: yeah yeah yeah the beauty is you can actually find out because that's definitely a common.

37:38 - 37:45

Speaker 6: But yes we are up to seventh Neil, how were you feeling that we're going to get to seventh or in the playoffs a few weeks ago?

37:48 - 38:25

Speaker 7: The way the division was we were never that far off it was all a run is always gonna was always gonna take us into the playoffs And I I have agreed with you that I think the second half of the season we're going to go on a big run. I don't actually want us to start the run too early or the players to be too good just in case any of the League 2 teams come sniffing in January. So in fact Lewis having been out injured is a bit like the Ben injury. It will probably have

38:25 - 38:56

Speaker 7: put people off a bit so there may not be as many people sniffing around because I suspect Lewis won't Lewis might make an appearance on the bench sort of come Christmas but he's probably not going to get back full-time full fit it's probably until the end of January a bit like Dylan coming back so yeah that's my feelings I think it's timing the run right and we want to get into the playoffs at the towards the end of the season as the team

39:00 - 39:03

Speaker 2: people asking for team sheets yesterday, read of that what you will.

39:03 - 39:04

Speaker 6: Okay. I'll make

39:04 - 39:05

Speaker 2: it that what you will.

39:05 - 39:42

Speaker 6: Fair enough. Fair enough. Keeping you new. Yes. Okay. Right, so before we get to the good, the bad and the funny, We did have a points of you. A question and it was from Nick Graham, who is in the US and he's just questioning. And I've kind of got half an answer, but I was just wondering what you 2 thought of this. Apart from them using Gander Green Lane for the women's team, do our links with Crystal Palace go any further? Is it in our interest, for example, financially or otherwise for them to stay in the

39:42 - 39:47

Speaker 6: Premier League? Neil, what's your gut feeling on that 1?

39:48 - 40:24

Speaker 7: I think it probably is important that they stay in the Premier League. Yeah, yeah. That gives them a bigger financial budget and it's given us a fabulous pitch. Look at the the rubbish, the rain and what we've had. And that pitch looked as good as it did when it was laid it's absolutely beautiful and I see I think that I think it's been used 2 nights back to back in a couple of weeks time so I can see it can take it so there's obviously it

40:45 - 41:20

Speaker 2: are on this month is that I'll be helping at the Man United game. Oh, excellent. So, I mean, I think it's fantastic that we've got like lionesses. It will be coming along to that. So, yeah, we will have England players at gander green line not england c but england england england I mean and that that is amazing so yeah I I think I think it it is really good because it just it can help bring people I know there'll be some folks who'll come along to these games who are palace fans so I've been helping out

41:20 - 42:04

Speaker 2: some of the palace men's sort of like under 23 or what have you so kind of like the the the junior champions league stuff from last year which was always great fun I really enjoyed those games because it was particularly given last season. It was lovely to come along to a match where I didn't really care what the result was and to just enjoy a game of football. And I also had the strange honor of being, because when Athletic Bill Bowell came, the Bill Bowell folk, their English was not fantastic. So I was having to use

42:04 - 42:43

Speaker 2: my duolingo Spanish To it's a kind of like convey some of the points that other people were saying to them and think I think including the fourth How has it come to this So, yeah, but yeah, the the palace games have been great. I mean I I mean, I assume that we make enough money from it For it to be worthwhile. I think it's also a really good partnership and yeah, and I think because the I think that the that the men's under 23 games have been played at Dulwich I think previously. So I think yeah,

42:45 - 42:59

Speaker 2: it's good to have to have powers here and I think it it could just encourage others to give us a try you know ideology of the hipsters we might all have power says families who are being pricedout or want something else to do well

42:59 - 44:03

Speaker 6: the answer I got was basically with their landlords yeah but yes there's the thing that bunch obviously there would be best if they and then have a potential knock-on effect to raise our profile through the ladies team and will potentially help us with, if we redo the stadium rights, might help us with some extra figures onto that as well. It is very unlikely to have a link-up with players because they tend not to play them at this level, although they have gone to lead 2. He was 1 of the premier league ones to watch in the

44:03 - 44:40

Speaker 6: academy. And then a few days later we went, yeah, we're having him. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, enjoyed that. So anyone else got any questions for us to talk through? Get, get, get me. The good, the bad and the funny. I have been assured that Neil is not going to talk about traffic. Neil what was good? Well

44:41 - 45:16

Speaker 7: where I was standing people were complaining that the the ladies toilets were all out of action alongside where the TARDIS was. So they were having to go further during the match, which of course run the possibility of having a Chris incident where they were too far away and missed the goal. So having just come back from northern India, the last thing you should ever do is complain about a toilet over here because until you've seen the toilets over there, you know never to ever complain about anything toilet related at all.

45:18 - 45:32

Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't know if they're not working as they should be and the bloke's on's are. Yeah I think you've got a case there. It's not like the bloke's on not working and animals go anywhere.

45:33 - 45:41

Speaker 7: So my good is you know good good sanitation you know you need to appreciate it because you know you know we take it for granted.

45:41 - 45:53

Speaker 6: We do take it for granted yeah I would be disappointed if the club went, oh well, it's not as bad as some places in rural India. Don't worry about it. Yes. Let's get the old toilets back up.

45:53 - 46:31

Speaker 2: Yes. It wasn't a good thing. It's a rural India defense. Yeah. Chris, what was your good? My good was, file bless them. After we'd scored our second goal, they had somebody sweeping the away dressing room for dustman and brush Bless you bless your cousin socks. Maybe they made an absolute mess I mean, I am not allowed into the dressing rooms So I don't know but it's not something I've often seen but it's just like oh Reminded me of kind of like the things you hear about say Japanese supporters Cleaning up the stadium after they've been knocked

46:31 - 46:35

Speaker 2: out of a World Cup or something and I thought oh you're lovely.

46:37 - 47:02

Speaker 6: Their thing was and it's their, I don't know if it still does, but it was their football culture at the time they all had blue little plastic bags. Yeah. Waved to support the team. Yes. So that was instead of scarves you had these little bags that you and then they gathered up any rubbish in the bags yeah throw it away yeah that's actually awesome because they tie in the 2 things that you're supporting the team and part of that is take your rubbish with you I'm not sure how they all managed to take more rubbish with

47:02 - 47:38

Speaker 6: them than they brought because it's impossible But yeah, I do like that. Thank you Chris. Their hands were great as well. Yes it's differing amounts is 21 I counted 15 someone else counted 17 and Yeah, and Long trip for a team that are struggling. Sorry. Yeah. Yeah, I never understand why people kind of mock the ones that are there Yes like it happens to us. It's like you only bought this many It's like yum. I'm 1 it would not me obviously you know, please you go I'm 1 of the few that I've got a you don't

47:38 - 48:14

Speaker 6: take the piss out me because I'm the 1 who've done it so yeah, but yeah fair play and opponents yeah yeah then I'm not I don't want to put up these every time but were we as bad because we were they weren't testing us as much well we could we have stepped I don't know I'm just saying no we

48:14 - 48:34

Speaker 2: we just weren't able to hold on to possession But then we were able to because I think they decided that they would take ownership as Steve had said and yeah but maybe we do that in the first half. You know it's not 45 minutes of football it's 90 minutes or 99

48:35 - 48:39

Speaker 6: really yeah yeah yeah neil what was your bad

48:40 - 49:07

Speaker 7: I've got 2 bads which is 1 is the referee that we've just Talked about because I thought that was ridiculous and in fact, I was really surprised Mike that when you walk Across behind the goal when the match was still going on with your yellow car I'm surprised he didn't book you because he was cooking anything in yellow and you were obviously interfering with play so I think you were very lucky that you didn't get a yellow card there speeded me down there

49:07 - 49:08

Speaker 6: yeah yeah because

49:08 - 49:10

Speaker 7: he he was going for the set

49:10 - 49:11

Speaker 2: yeah what was

49:11 - 49:12

Speaker 6: your other 1

49:12 - 49:57

Speaker 7: daisom because unfortunately I as you know I was in India I was I could possibly watch both of the matches that are out there scheduled, you know because it the times fitted and Because I was using an e-sim and the hotel Wi-Fi's was poor, they even have got very good anti VPN software which they didn't have and it wouldn't allow it told me that I was in a in an area that was not recognized and it is available in India but so therefore I wasn't able to watch 2 well 1 was council but I couldn't watch

49:57 - 50:10

Speaker 7: the other 2 matches while I was away so really peed me off really because I was looking forward to settling down with a cold beer after my curry and watching a couple of Sutton games but I couldn't do it.

50:11 - 50:44

Speaker 2: Yeah it is fun when you're travelling and even if it especially if you're having to do it at an interesting time of night because of where you are, I watched a match that possibly I shouldn't have, whilst in Australia, and I did fall asleep and then had to kind of like find out what the score was. But it was but still it is good fun to do that. Yeah. Yeah. And it makes you kind of feel, wow, we have come up a bit. I mean,

50:48 - 50:56

Speaker 6: so sorry, I've done this. Chris, did I ask you about or not? Yes. Yes. Neil, it's your funny. Bittiness, bittiness, yes.

50:56 - 51:24

Speaker 7: So it's been alluded to the funny, but if you remember this, Dylan De Silva went on a mazy run and ideally he shot but he should really have passed to Will. So we then had the Will mazy run and it was absolutely obvious there was no way he was going to pass to Dylan because Dylan hadn't passed to him so we'd had the shot so that to me just struck me as a bit of getting their own

51:24 - 51:25

Speaker 6: hands on each other

51:25 - 51:48

Speaker 7: and of course it wasn't critical to the match because we'd already run it but that really did tickle me and Jenny was alongside me and we both sort of commented that was exactly the reasoning behind doing that because it was a case of that a teacher. You can see that next to those 2 parts they're going to be finding every opportunity to pass to each other now.

51:48 - 51:56

Speaker 6: I would imagine that John has already clicked all those clips up to say to the centre and go what the hell is going on here.

52:00 - 52:28

Speaker 2: So he was speaking of John. So after the match as part of the celebrations, we got John the coach, who's known him I forget, doing a repeat of his celebrations, just running around punching the air in a kind of like a 3 to 1 kind of punch thing and Then drawing a ball all in 1 kind of like

52:30 - 52:32

Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it was Lovely.

52:33 - 53:07

Speaker 2: Yes, right. Okay. It was lovely to see I Would just love that to be more players and other folks there I know Josh made like a cameo appearance, but I think it was like Marcy was looking for people I also don't appreciate That maybe you know the the era of having our players sinking desperado's after the game has gone It's probably a good thing that it holds but it would just be kind of nice but yeah yeah

53:07 - 53:10

Speaker 6: that's if they were going to do it yes that would

53:10 - 53:29

Speaker 2: have been that would have been a good time however I also appreciate that like they are professional players and it's a bit odd with some of our kind of our post-match stuff but and also I know that some of them do tend to hang out a little bit more in the VP

53:29 - 53:30

Speaker 6: yeah yeah

53:31 - 53:32

Speaker 2: yeah so

53:33 - 54:07

Speaker 6: right so I've not done the away fans for the Sweet match or the top. Yeah. Yeah, I've gotten at the start of call that Elvis Tomlinson and Just a little thing. So just anyone listening the prediction league isn't gonna go for the National League trophy games because people are just in lack of interest of them. So you might get an email from me because it's automatic, but I'm not counting them once. And what do you guys think I mean do you have any thoughts chris for the top line match

54:07 - 54:36

Speaker 2: or or or not yet I I have this suspicion we may sneak it just because sometimes from experience from the pizza cup these youth teams don't take it seriously sometimes however Spurs might take it a bit more seriously but then I thought that Chelsea might have they had John Terry in front of them and yeah I don't I can't actually remember what the final scores are that but I remember it

54:36 - 55:03

Speaker 6: 1 nil and 1 nil yeah yeah they paid that they just signed He got to go, watch it. I don't even know if it's televised. I don't

55:03 - 55:05

Speaker 7: know, clearly. I think it's streamed on something.

55:06 - 55:07

Speaker 6: Does that happen?

55:07 - 55:41

Speaker 7: I think so, but I'm not quite sure. I think National League Television may still exist for those, but, so no, I'm not gonna come all that way just for that but I think again it will be useful because I think you'll see that those players who haven't had minutes will start and I think that will be good I think you'll see that Jaco will come back in that will give him a chance of easing back in Harry Ransom will get some more minutes Steve Arnold because you know he keeps in match shot because we don't know

55:41 - 55:42

Speaker 7: he could need to come on

55:42 - 55:43

Speaker 6: exactly yeah

55:43 - 56:14

Speaker 7: exactly for that. So some of the other you know we know definitely Jack Scott because Steve said in his post-match that Jack was going to be able to be at home and put his feet up on Tuesday. So I think it will be useful. I think that they will value it as very good training exercise. But and a bit of tension if it goes to penalties, practice penalties. And who knows when that might

56:14 - 56:15

Speaker 2: to be

56:15 - 56:15

Speaker 7: come vicar?

56:16 - 56:35

Speaker 6: Before we mention, Game of Slay, I've just remembered, what I wanted to say about Matt Rush going on loan, I haven't looked at Maidenhead's fixtures, but it could help us out, obviously in being on loan now. So you never know. You think of the Ebsleep match which we're going to be taking a little bit more seriously?

56:36 - 57:02

Speaker 7: Well you know I've said you know we need a trophy run so you know perhaps this is the time to get to Wembley and win and not do a Solly-Hull and lose both the trophy and the playoff. So but again it could be to you know we we did it was a little nearly a bananas game the last time so again you know wouldn't surprise me. Are there replays or does it go to panels? I don't even know

57:02 - 57:19

Speaker 2: what the trophy rules are. It depends not to this. Yeah I I would imagine given given all the stuff about fixture congestion despite the existence of this thing, then yeah, I think it does go to Penns, but.

57:20 - 57:24

Speaker 6: Go on Neil, just give us a score line for that 1. Early prediction obviously, you can.

57:25 - 57:31

Speaker 7: I think it might actually be a draw and it might go to penalties. Or it might go to extra time.

57:31 - 57:37

Speaker 6: Okay, okay. Chris, what do you think of the game and an idea of a score?

57:37 - 58:14

Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we might win it just. We are more confident than we were against Epswet last time by all accounts and that was a match that I was in the bar afterwards, I wasn't at any of the game so I don't count that as a win because I didn't see us win but yeah I have this yeah I think maybe we might it'd be nice to just to get get the run continuing so yeah but as Neil said yeah it has potential bananas go written all over

58:45 - 59:17

Speaker 6: yeah who knows but anyway we've rattled on enough sorry I've kept you guys long enough and so we're wrapping up the episode of something podcast and give us your feedback I appreciate your attention obviously and do get involved in the knowing me knowing you segment what is your favorite hit on which season and why and follow like share this episode and make your friends suffer?
